Overall Philosophy

As a Children’s Dentist (Pedodontist) practicing for over 40 years, my objective is to provide the least invasive, most beneficial, holistic dental care for your child. Children are at a critical stage of development that impacts their oral and overall health for the rest of their lives. That’s why I continually train in the latest techniques of rebuilding the oral micro-biome, avoiding extracting your child’s teeth, optimizing the airway for proper breathing, facial and jaw development, and optimizing function of your child’s entire mouth.

The mouth has been called the “Gateway” to the body, and as such is a good indicator of overall health. Good health begins in the mouth.

Many Dentists feel that extracting teeth, (i.e., “pulling teeth”), is warranted, and is not detrimental because these are “Baby Teeth,” which will be replaced by permanent “Adult Teeth.” However, the “Baby Teeth” are extremely important for your child’s bone structure, proper growth of your child’s jaw, and act as placeholders for their Adult Teeth.

Tooth decay is causing unnecessary destruction to your child’s mouth. There is a strong link between diet and tooth decay. Sugar is the main culprit!

Cleaning

Although you may be teaching your child proper dental hygiene at home, it’s important to schedule frequent check-ups for a thorough evaluation of their oral health. Our team always makes sure to be as gentle as possible while we clean those hard-to-reach areas. We want your child to feel comfortable coming to our office, which is why we offer in-office conscious sedation to relieve any stress or anxiety during their visit.

fastbraces

FASTBRACES®

If your child’s adult teeth have grown in crooked, sideways or unevenly spaced, it may be time for them to get FASTBRACES®. These high-performance braces minimize time spent correcting tooth alignment and smile development.

If your child is a candidate for FASTBRACES®, the course of treatment is generally much faster than traditional Orthodontics. Many children achieve excellent results in months, not years.

My staff and I regularly attend FASTBRACES® events to ensure we are current on the latest techniques.

We would love to discuss with you the possibilities using FASTBRACES® technologies can provide for your child.

Frenectomy

What is a frenectomy, and why might your child need one? The frenulum is the tissue that attaches to the lip and tongue. A frenectomy is a procedure that removes the frenulum to ease regular tasks like talking, and eating properly. This simple procedure helps free the lip and tongue to encourage breastfeeding and improves mother and infant health.

These conditions are also commonly known as “Tongue Tie,” or “Lip Tie,” and can be vastly improved or resolved with a frenectomy.

If you or your child are experiencing nursing problems, such as, inability to latch, pain, or poor appetite, please contact my office to explore if a frenectomy will be beneficial. Sandraluz Gonzalez, a Myofunctional Therapist in my office works closely with me to assure your child receives the best result before and after the procedure. We also work with many lactation consultants.

Orthotropics/Growth Guidance

Orthotropics is a treatment that corrects your child’s jaw growth pattern. The treatment will improve the appearance and positioning of the jaw, which opens airways and allows for better cognitive and behavioral development. In contrast to Orthodontics, Orthotropics affects the facial balance, breathing space, TMJ function, sinus function, and digestion. While Orthotropics can be beneficial at any time, ideally treatment should begin early for maximum benefit.

Myofunctional Therapy

This form of therapy is aimed to eliminate Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs). OMDs prevent your child’s oral and facial muscles from working properly. The disorder impacts proper chewing, swallowing, breastfeeding and facial growth. Our Myofunctional Therapist, Sandraluz Gonzalez, will work with your child to create harmony with the face, mouth and throat. To learn more about Myofunctional Therapy, please visit

Mercury Free Dentistry

Mercury is one of the most toxic elements. While this remains a controversial topic, there is significant evidence that mercury used in dentistry is a health hazard. It is especially detrimental to a growing child’s brain development and overall health. Placing it in contact with the saliva, and tissues, and in close proximity to the brain presents increased risks, which is why our office practices mercury-free dentistry.

Airway

We offer therapy for snoring and other sleep-related breathing problems. This service is available to children and adults alike. With use of home sleep study equipment and specialty measuring equipment available in our office, a proper diagnosis and effective treatment can be achieved.

Composite fillings/restorations

Tooth-colored (Composite) fillings result in an aesthetically pleasing appearance and almost invisible repairs to your child’s teeth. Additionally, they do not pose the health concerns of traditional silver/mercury fillings.

Fluoride

X-Rays

Our office utilizes Digital X-Rays to reduce your child’s exposure to radiation, and to avoid releasing the chemicals associated with traditional X-Ray development.

Silver Nitrate

In some cases, disinfection with Silver Nitrate can lower the possibility of tooth decay progressing and prevent abscesses from developing.

Prebiotics

We offer fluoride-free Revitin Prebiotic Toothpaste which helps to restore the natural micro-biome of the mouth. Revitin is made of Non-GMO, all natural ingredients and includes ionic minerals, and vital nutrients for the optimal oral care.

Extractions

Premature loss of primary teeth, or extraction of adult teeth due to crowding, presents an increased potential for health problems. Our approach is to avoid extracting teeth wherever possible, by optimizing the jaw development to accommodate the alignment of all teeth.
